Social Media

It's such a buzzword, but I'm really starting to wonder what does it mean?

It's been almost a month now since I started experiment/searching facebook, twitter, linkedin and even this blog site. Have I missed the point somewhere? I've had great conversations with myself (I enjoy my own company so it's ok), and have watched others having great conversations with themselves. Where does the word 'social' come into it all.

Why have we been exploring putting ourselves out there? Well marketing of course. But from what I've seen it's only people from marketing departments who Twitter and the amount of marketing that is coming into my twitter box is as overwhelming as the spam used to be in my email. Is this the new spam?

I've just got one simple question. What have I got wrong in all of this? I really don't want to give up as I can see the potential, but I'm really missing a piece in the puzzle.

A fantastic Sunday

We've just had the best day at the Storylines Festival in Christchurch. Through our involvement with Te Tai Tamariki we've all ended up to our knees in the organisation of this festival. And it's been great. Diane helped out with the minders and got a great team together who looked after Ken Catran, Fleur Beale, Robyn Belton, Ben Brown, Helen Taylor, Maragret Mahy, David Elliot, Katz Cowley, Paula Green and Brain Faulkner. Peter helped Science Alive with their displays and painted faces after working hard all week to create the wonderful powerpoint displays and signs.

My legs now hurt more now than after a 5 set game of squash, but everything just fell into place. We're really lucky that Storylines want to bring this fantastic festival to Christchurch ... and it was all free.

I saw families arrive just after 10am with children aged from 4-12 and they stayed for hours. There was something for everyone. The amount of children with heads down writing stories for the story writing competition would have made any teacher's heart sing - and they choose to do it! What an awesome day.
